What really can Europe do in that extremely revisionist geopolitical global envitonment?
I believe that initially a “war economy” can contain or limit the recession in Europe and save its industrial base / technological production – innovation. I believe that, with the EU cut off from Russia/Asia/cheap energy and without Europe controlling the necessary trade routes (which are under US control), alignment (not confrontation as a basic principle) with the USA is inevitable, at least in the short-to-medium-to-long term. I propose (for Europe), especially after the War in the Middle East, that Europe should demand to share the cost of protecting/guardianship of the maritime trade routes with the USA and potentially, in the medium term, benefit from a crisis of the USA. Therefore, armament should not be oriented toward defending Eastern Europe (even if only or mainly) but toward the open seas (under the above perspective and if what I propose is politically feasible). It is noteworthy that the protection of the seas is feasible precisely because of US control over them. Here, Greece clearly has a comparative advantage, both in terms of its navy and its global merchant fleet. At the same time, the EU must safeguard its European distinctiveness (environment, labor rights – democracy, freedom of expression, etc.) and in a coordinated way reformulate its relations with Russia and not copy extraterritorial solutions. In this way, it will (remain as) a distinct global model of economy – society. I believe that Russia is thirsty for European investments – technology and for many reasons (important geopolitical balancing of Asian dependence) these are also politically desirable. Europe can exploit this Russian need. All this, as you understand, in very general terms and given that now the EU is in a phase of readjustments and now reorientation is easier (before the new structures solidify). First, of course, it must be recognized that there is a problem: namely, the changes in the international power factors are against Europe and given that Europe did not proceed to a political defense union (due to national agendas).
